Mar 05, 2017  The Expansion Joint Manufacturers Association, Inc. EJMA was founded in 1955. Bellows Master II FAQ. EJMA has standard fatigue. We had full access to inhouse software for an older version of EJMA code. Bellows are one of the most efficient energy absorbing elements for engineering system. Bellows have a function to absorb. Expansion joint.

Machinery 18 post s. Sa is the allowable stress from the applicable code. Chuck Becht on Wednesday, 16 October The EJMA bellows fatigue curve is a best fit curve based on data that was available, so it provides an expected average cycle life.

Subscribe or View Newsletters. EJMA does not mention this. Friday, 26 July Pressure Stanfard 17 post s. The fatigue life expectancy can be defined as the total number of complete cycles which can be expected from the expansion joint.

Definitions in the Nomenclature section 1. This rating may be different for each size, type and make of Expansion Joint and is established by the manufacturer. The Expansion Joint Manufacturers Association is an organization of established manufacturers of metal bellows type expansion joints.

The Difference Between ASME B31.3 Appendix X and EJMA Fatigue Curves for Bellows?

The design of every Expansion Joint must be such that the total displacement per convolution from all sources does not exceed the rated values. Axial Working Spring Rate: Angular rotation is occasionally referred to as rotational movement and is shown in LBS per degree. It is characterized by tilting or warping of one or more convolutions. Bellows material thickness for one ply, corrected for thinning during the forming of the bellows convolutions. This includes standard conversions in addition to constants used in calculations.

Per Ejma I need the allowable at design to check the calculated stresses. With bellows, design for an excessive number of cycles can unnecessarily compromise other design aspects, such as design with respect to internal pressure and column stability resistance to squirm. Reliability Improvement 26 post s. Piping 26 post s.

Joints Externally Pressurized Exp. This is the displacement of the longitudinal axis of the Expansion Joint from its initial straight line position into a circular arc. The calculation of universal type Expansion Joints has been simplified standsrd a modified equation for the axial movement per convolution. Bellows are rated by the manufacturer in terms of maximum allowable axial displacement per convolution, ec and ee.

Yield strength at design temperature, unless otherwise determined, of bellows material after completion of bellows forming staneard any applicable heat treatment. Distance between outermost ends of the convolutions in a universal expansion joint.

The number of stanxard cycles can now be calculated from the same set of fatigue curves which are relevant for the unreinforced bellows and for the toroidal bellows. Calculated maximum pressure in PSIG before expansion joint may squirm because of column instability. He is an ASME Fellow and has more than 60 publications and five patents and is a frequent speaker and chairman in technical forums. There is ongoing work eima potentially revise the EJMA fatigue curve to include a factor of safety, which may be variable. The latter provides a significantly higher cycle life. Bending Working Spring Rate: I cannot imagine that for simple applications the bellow tube Always has to be x-rayed or DPI tested. Safety 10 post s. Factor establishing relationship between the equivalent axial displacement per convolution due to lateral deflection.

The Authority on Expansion Joints The EJMA Standards are recognized throughout the world as the authority on the proper selection and application of metallic bellows type expansion joints for safe and reliable piping and vessel installation. AND it does not explain why his allowables don’t jive.

In-plane squirm is defined as a shift or rotation of the plane of one or more convolutions such that the plane of these convolutions is stanfard longer perpendicular to the axis of the bellows.

Project 2 post s.

Cycle Life is theoretical and is dependent upon the maximum stress range to which the bellows is subjected.

Hello everyone,
I 'am studying EJMA code for some time already and I need some help regarding the fatigue life calculation.
Can someone please tell me how to determine the 'material and manufacturing constants a,b and c'? from the formula in the link? you can also see it here. 'Nc=(c/St-b)^a'.
The think is that I found something about this 'a,b,c' constants in EJMA 9th version, but is for high temperature conditions and in my case I have no high temperature and no pressure for my metal bellows application. Once I have the bellows I need to test them, therefore I need a testing plan and also some formulas to be able to find the constants 'a,b,c' . Any help would be great.
thank you in advance
